Panchakarma Basic Principles |  |
Panchakarma includes three main parts (stages) namely:
Poorva Karma (Preparatory Methods)which includes :
- Paachan (Digestion)
- Snehan (Internal and external olecranon)
- Swedan (Fomentation)
Pradhan Karma (Main methods)which includes :
- Vaman (Induced vomiting)
- Virechan (Induced purgation)
- Basti (Medicated clyster)
- Nasya (Nasal medicine)
- Rakta Mokshan (Artificial bloodletting)
Pashchat Karma (Post-Therapeutic Measures)which includes :
This includes Sansarjan Krama (Specific dietetics), DhumraPana (smoking of medicinal cigars) and some rules to follow specific activities.
Panchakarma aims to remove the ailments, and health problems of diseased persons, to maintain positive health in healthy people and obtain extra-ordinary qualities like Rasayana (rejuvenation therapy) and Vasheekarana.
Panchakarma in diseased persons :
Panchakarma is equivalent to the medicinal treatment given to the patient, but the unique fact is that it treats naturally, without using any artificial substances. Some diseases respond to Panchakarma treatment better than the medicinal treatment.
Panchakarma in healthy persons :
Diseases cannot affect those people who follow the daily and seasonal regime (dincharya and ritucharya) advocated by Ayurvedic Foundations. Therefore, most of the people are adopting these therapeutic techniques in their daily routine.
