LODHRA (Symplocos racemosa)


Part Used :

 Bark

Properties :

 Astringent,Opthalmic,Blood-purifier,Anti-pyretic,Anti-diarrhoeal,Anti-infiammatory

Specific Property :

 Kaph-Pitta-Samak

Dosage :

 Powder : 5 -10 Ratti
Decoction : 50-100 ml

Uses :

 » In Diarrhoea & Dysentery - Ladhra is used with pulp of beal or mulethi and kayaphal.
» Lodhra used with pippli powder and honey acts as uterine contractor.
» In Metro-menorrhogia -It is very effective,if used with purified sugar-candy three of four times a day.
» In Skin diseases and wound -Used internally & externally.
» In Acne - Paste of Lodhra and Sphatika should be applied.

VACH(Acorus calamus)


Part Used :

 Rhizome

Properties :

 Emetic,Digestive,Laxative,Canninative,Anti-neuralgic

Specific Property :

 Intellect promoting

Dosage :

 Powder : 125 - 500mg.

Uses :

 » Old ghee processed with Brahmi juice, Vach and Shankhpuspi alleviates Insanity and Epilepsy.
» One who keeps the nodular piece of Vach in mouth get rid of dry cough.
» By using for a month of Vach with milk,one becomes invincible for pathogenic agents and endowed with sharp intellect and sweet voice.
» Paste of Lodhra and Vach removes pimples of puberty .
» One suffering from diarrhoea should take water boiled with Vach, Mustak,Haridra and Sunthi.

VARUN (Crataeva nurvala)


Part Used :

 Bark, leaf

Properties :

 Carminative,Bactericidal,Blood purifier

Specific Property :

 Urinary lithontriptics

Dosage :

 Decoction : 50-100 ml.
Powder : 3 - 5 gms

Uses :

 » In Abscess- Decoction of the root of white Punamava & Varun should be taken to controls the unripe abscess.
» In Gandamala(Cervical adenitis) -Decoction of varun root taken with honey destroys gandamala even if chronic.
» In Calculus, Dysuria, Renal colic, and U.T.I. - one should take decoction of varun (root-bark)with honey.
» In loss of appetite, colies, liver disorders - Hot infusion of varuna leaves should be taken.
» In Kikkisa (Stria gravidarum)- At first the spot is rubbed With dried Cow-dung and then anointed with the paste of Varun leaves.
