HARITAKI (Terminalia chebula)


Part Used :

 Fruit

Properties :

 Stomachic, Intellect-promoting,Rejuvenating

Specific Property :

 Tridoshar

Dosage :

 Expressed juice : 2-4 Tola
Powder : 3-6 Masha,

Uses :

 » In loss of appetite, indigestion - Haritaki taken regularly with Sunthi promotes digestive powder.
» As Rasayana- Two Haritaki fruits taken with jaggery, honey, Sunthi, Pippali and salt (according to season) provide happiness and longivity.
» In Grahani rog (Sprue) - The bark of Haritaki tree taken with butter milk alleviated grahani roga.
» Haritaki taken after meals checks excessive salivation.
» In piles - Haritaki mixed with jaggery should be taken followed by intake of buttermilk.
» In Dandruff - Powder of Mango seeds and Haritaki in equal quantity are pounded with milk and applied.


KANTAKARI(Solanum xanthocarpm)


Part Used :

 Whole plant

Properties :

 Stomachic,Digestive,Bronchial sedative,Anti-pyretic

Specific Property :

 Kaph Vata Samak

Dosage :

 Expressed juice of leaves : 1/4 - 1/2 Tola
Decoction : 40 - 80 ml.
Powder of Root : 1 - 2 Masha

Uses :

 »Decoction of Kantakari added with Ardrakis efficacious in all types of cough.
» Ghee cooked with decoction of Kantakari checks cough caused by Vata.
» The decoction of Kantakari added with Pippali removes all types of cough.
» Decoction of Kantakari with honey isuseful in suppression & retention of urine.
» In fever & Cough - Decoction of Kantakari & Ambrita is useful as tonic.

SHARAPUNKHA(Tephrosia purpurea)


Part Used :

 Root, Alkali of the whole plant.

Properties :

 Antidote,Bronchial sedative,Anti-pyretic,Blood purifjer

Specific Property :

 Plihaghna

Dosage :

 Powder : 3 - 6gms
Alkali : 1 - 3 gms.
Expressed juice : 10-20 ml.

Uses :

 » In Hepato-spleenomegally - Root of Sarapunkha with Haritaki is useful.
» In Haemorrhoids - Sarapunkha root is usedwith watermilk (Takra).
»In Haemorrhagie disorders - Saiapunkha root is used with rice-water.
» In Cough - Inhalation of the smoke of Sarapunkha root is an excellent remedy for cough.
» In Abdominal pain -Its fresh root bark mixed with piper sholud be taken.
» In Scrofula, Filariasis, Oedema -Locally application of this root.
